Answered prayers for struggling marriages

Today, I woke up with an overwhelming sense of peace and thankfulness. Okay, that’s not entirely true. I stumbled out of bed, fell back to sleep on the couch for 10 minutes, made a cup of coffee, and organized my thoughts and prayers for the day.

But, once I finally woke up, my heart was comforted. As I reflected back on the last month, I started recognizing all of the small, yet not insignificant, prayers that God has answered in my life lately. Prayers for my marriage, my family, my heart, and my friends.

Though, if I did not ask and believe for these specific, seemingly small prayers, nothing might have changed. And if I did not stop to recognize that they were answered in a rather unconventional way, I may never have realized that God is at work in my life.

For the last month, this exact thing has been happening with The Heart of Family course participants. They have been praying for their marriages and for their families for months, even years, and they are beginning to see God’s hand in their lives. How do I know that? Because they’re telling us!

All I can say is WOW! I really like the video I went back to it twice and got more out of it the 2nd time. I am really taking my time with this study and letting it soak in me. The study guide is great, it has opened up my eyes more and my spirit more to a new understanding. – Heather

I’ve been married for nearly ten years and the first five we spent keeping a record of wrongs. Every time a new conflict arose, we pulled out those records and rehashed it all. It was toxic and permeated all aspects of our lives really. When you hold on to so much negativity it changes you. The best thing we’ve ever done for our marriage is learning to forgive. Secondly, to understand that we can’t look to one another for our own joy. Joy comes from knowing Christ; the only one who can truly fulfill the human heart is the one who designed it. These lessons have been so incredibly inspiring, and have given me so much confidence that we are moving in all the right directions. Thank you, guys! – Ashley

Lesson 3 is phenomenal. Forgiveness is endless and understanding what Joy truly is…thank you for this!!! – Cherie

Thank you, Kirk and Chelsea! This lesson is just what I’ve been praying for. It couldn’t have come at a better time in my life. Time to break free and leave it all at the cross! – Lisa

I really appreciate Kirk and Chelsea taking on this topic at this stage in their lives. I feel this way because my wife and I are also at this same point. I don’t feel like I am listening to newly weds living in the honeymoon stage fantasy, though that stage was really fun at the time. Rather I see a kindred spirit in one who has taken their marriage lumps, and continued to fight for their marriage. So, thank you for bringing Glory to God by sharing your struggles and weakness, and how He is strengthening you and teaching you. It is encouraging to those of us who are also learning the same lessons, at the loving hand of our Lord and Savior. I also know it is not easy to display our weakness and sins to others. So I have a special appreciation for the bravery of opening your lives up to all of us here. So Kirk and Chelsea, Thanks again. – James

We are really enjoying these lessons. Helps us confront the truth about ourselves and how we can apply God’s biblical principles to be what God intended us to be. – Dahlia
