Has a friend, pastor, or author ever shared a piece of advice with you that stuck with you throughout your life? What did you do with that newly-gifted wisdom?
I’m a big fan of typing inspiring quotes and ideas in the Notes app on my phone. If I don’t document those little pieces of wisdom on my phone, I write it down in my journal or on a sticky note. I also think it’s so important to not only remember that powerful advice but to then share it with others when necessary. Why? Because we are called to encourage each other every day! And if it encouraged me, it will probably encourage someone else.
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. Hebrews 3:13
That’s exactly what Kirk Cameron does this week in his new video series inside the exclusive community called The Campfire.
Kirk has had the honor to work with a lot of people during his career. In this week’s Campfire video, he opens up for the first time to talk about what he’s learned from some of the biggest names in faith and culture.
He shares conversations he’s had with Ben Carson, Ravi Zacharias, and others. One of my favorite conversations Kirk talks about was with author and pastor Francis Chan. While working on the movie Revive Us together, Francis shared parenting advice that Kirk says he’ll never forget. He paraphrases Francis’s encouragement:
“For so many years I believed that if I taught my kids the right things and modeled it perfectly for them, that they would follow in the footsteps of the Lord. But you know what I realized? I am not the Holy Spirit.”
Kirk goes on to share Francis’s words, “My job is to model and be faithful to God for my family, but at the end of the day I have to trust the Lord.”
Do you need to be reminded of that truth today? We can pray for our children and we should teach them the truth found in God’s Word. However, ultimately, the Holy Spirit changes hearts, we do not.
Kirk also shares a very powerful statement shared by Ben Carson while he was running for the presidential candidate in 2016. To hear this conversation and many others, sign up today for a free 14-day trial of The Campfire.
We hope you are encouraged by this week’s full video. Be sure to encourage someone in your life today.
