How many young men do you know that act more like a 12-year-old boy than a 25-year-old adult?
You know what I’m talking about. These men play video games in mom’s basement until midnight, they can’t hold an intellectual conversation, and they have very little motivation to get their career in motion.
This immature male mentality is creeping into our society more and more, and many parents dismiss this problem by saying, “It’s just who they are! It’s their personality.”
However, Pastor Mike Fabarez says that parents can actually do something to help their young boys become mature men if we get back to the Bible.
Mike is a pastor of Compass Bible Church in Aliso Viejo, California, and the author of “Raising Men Not Boys”. We recently caught up with Mike during an exclusive audio interview inside Kirk Cameron’s The Campfire. He believes that the real problem begins with the approach parents are taking with raising their children.
“We think that our primary responsibility (as parents) is to cater to our children in such a way that makes them the happiest and most entertained children on the block. As long as they have the latest and greatest screens and toys, everything is copasetic.”
When we make their happiness the goal, we can easily lose sight of teaching them the hard lessons of responsibility, discipline, and self-control. All which are essential traits for adulthood.
Mike also points out that as Christians, we need to raise the mark when it comes to raising strong, determined, young men. “We need to raise the next generation of people that are committed to loving the Lord with all their heart, soul, and mind,” Mike shares.
It’s so important to remember that the work you do as a parent when your children are young will lay the groundwork for the rest of their lives. The details matter! Mike also stresses the fact that being a parent means you are making disciples of Jesus! Hear more from the interview below.
