Grab the tissues, because you’re going to need ’em.
A new video shows the moment a wife breaks the news to her husband, who has been battling kidney disease for 14 years, that she is a donor match. She pulls out all the stops, presenting her husband with a custom Topps baseball card featuring him and his story. But it included something new: she will now be “going to bat for him” as the donor for his kidney transplant.
The husband, Steve Winfree, immediately loses it.
“Thanks for saving my life,” Winfree says through sobs.
He goes on to say that he suspected something was up because his wife told him to go to Sport Clips and splurge on the MVP treatment.
“She told me all day she hadn’t heard, so when the moment came where she surprised me with the baseball card, what you see in the video is my genuine reaction to first finding out she is saving my life!” he told the Facebook page Love What Matters. “I love my wife so much. She has been by my side during every hospital visit, every emergency room visit, and has been my rock, hope, and inspiration to keep fighting. My wife constantly inspired me with the love she had for me and our foster kids. She is the reason I believed there was light at the end of the tunnel. Now I know she was the light and see is destined to save my life.”
